Abstract
The agriculture and health program of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is one of the eight research for development (R4D) programs implemented by IITA in the humid and sub-humid tropics of sub Saharan Africa. The overall goal of this program is to improve diets, health, and productivity through research in micronutrients content, food toxins, nutrient patterns and science-based evidence policy advocacy. This paper explains the rationale of this program, the main objectives, key research areas and expected outputs. It also briefly presents examples of highlights from implementing R4D activities on key research areas.
