This study was carried out at the Biological Control Center for Africa of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Benin Station to determine the effect of different host eggs on biological parameters such as longevity, adult emergency rate and sex ratio of Trichogrammatoidea sp. And parasitismrates of the cowpea podborer Marucavitrata Geyer (Lepidoptera:Pyralidae) alone or together with following host species:Syleptaderogata (Fabricius), MussidianigrivenellaRagonot, EldanasaccharinaWalker (Lepidoptera:Pyralidae), andSesamiacalamistis (Lepidoptera:Noctuidae). TheresultsshowthatTrichogrammatoideasp.ispolyphagous, a common feature of trichogrammatids. Adult female longevity is highest without exposure to host eggs. Longevity and emergence rates of adult females are higher on M.vitrata eggs than on eggs of other hosts species. Also, eggs exploitation rates are higher on M.vitrata whether alone or exposed together with other host species. M.vitrata and E.saccharina are most suitable host species for T.eldanae, whose performance does not seem to be determined by the taxonomic affiliation of the host species. Under field conditions, it is expected that M.nigrivenella and S.calamistis would be secondary hosts, therefore not affecting parasitism efficiency of T.eldanae on M.vitrata.
